What is EPAT ® (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology ® )? Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology ® (EPAT ® ) is the most advanced and highly effective non – invasive treatment approved by the FDA. This proprietary technology is based on a unique set of pressure waves that stimulate the metabolism, enhance blood circulation and accelerate the healing process. Damaged tissues gradually regenerate and eventually heal without invasive surgery, medications and no down time.

What disorders can be treated? This non-invasive office - based procedure represents a breakthrough treatment option for a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions. Acute and chronic muscle pain and / or tendon insertional pain are effectively treated, such as:

  • Plantar Fasciitis / Fasciosis / Heel Spur
  • Achilles Tendonosis / Achilles Bursitis
  • Posterior Tibial Tendonosis
  • Peroneal Tendonosis
  • Tibialis Anterior Syndrome
  • Various Chronic Enthesiopathies (painful irritations of tendon attachments resulting from overexertion or due to a degenerative process)
  • Many other conditions not listed.

Is it safe? Yes. This FDA approved technology was developed in Europe and is currently being used worldwide. Extensive clinical studies and tests have been performed confirming its safety and efficacy. In fact, many professional and collegiate athletic teams are using this technology as part of rehabilitaion / therapy programs for their injured athletes.

Are there any side effects / complications / contraindications? The non-invasive EPAT ® treatment has virtually no risks or side effects. In some cases patients may experience some minor discomfort which may last for a few days. It is best to perform light exercise immediately after the treatment. Treatment with EPAT is not recommended on those with the following conditions: DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), malignancies or if a cortisone injection was given 6 weeks prior to the first treatment.

What is the duration of the treatment and how many will I need? The treatment sessions take about 15 minutes depending on what area is being treated. Typically 3 – 4 treatments are necessary and treatments are done at weekly intervals.

What are the expected results? The beneficial effects of Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT ® ) are often experienced after only 3 – 4 treatment sessions. Wile some patients report immediate pain relief after the treatments, it typically takes up to 4 weeks for pain relief to begin. The procedure eliminates pain and restores full mobility, thus improving the overall quality of life.
